Here is an unusual specimen of Phacops rana rana from the Devonian of New York. This prone trilobite has very interesting coloration. The creamish-white colored bug is sitting next to a large Phacops cephalon that is totally black! Although the trilobite has some restoration to the pygidium, the displayability of the piece is unaffected. Both of the fossils exhibit fine detail. The granulose texture of the glabellas is very evident and the eyes are near perfect - the individual lenses are easily seen. The fossils are well centered on the large, natural plate of matrix. This is a very unique specimen of Phacops rana rana from the Penn-Dixie Quarry.
