This is a hard-to-find US trilobite. It is an Anataphrus vigilans from Iowa. This specimen was acquired from the Paul Richman Trilobite Collection. The trilobite is mostly outstretched, which is very unusual - almost all specimens of this type are found enrolled. The bug has nice detail on the thick shell exoskeleton. The large eyes are very 3-D and display prominently. The trilobite is almost perfectly centered on the large matrix plate. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the buff-colored matrix. This is a very collectible example of this unusual US trilobite.
