Here is a beautiful trilobite. This is a "true" Phacops from the Devonian of Morocco. This outstretched trilobite is very inflated and beautifully articulated. The thick shell of the exoskeleton preserves excellent detail. The large, compound eyes are near flawless - the individual lenses are very easily seen. The frames around the eyes are hexagonal - almost identical to Phacops crassituberculata from the Devonian of Ohio. The coarsely granulose glabella is quite evident and the finely reticulated surface of the thorax and pygidium is very noticeable. The dark fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the rounded plate of limestone. This is a fantastic specimen of this unusual Phacopid trilobite from Morocco.
