Here is a beautiful specimen of a stalk-eyed Russian trilobite. This is Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Middle Ordovician. These trilobites are among the favorites of collectors all over the world because of the long stalked eyes. This trilobite is wonderfully prone and very 3-dimensional. The specimen shows near perfect articulation and exhibits fine detail. The long stalked eyes are nicely displayed. The caramel colored trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The bug is well positioned on the natural limestone plate. There is also a partial cystoid, Echinosphaerites sp., on the plate. This is a very "clean" specimen of this species of trilobite with extremely long eye stalks.
