This is an excellent specimen of Ampyx sp. from the Ordovician of Morocco. This type has a small Trinucleid-type body plan with long genal spines and a long anterior spine extending in front of the cephalon. This trilobite is wonderfully prone and nicely articulated. The long, sweeping genal spines extend way past the body of the trilobite. The thin anterior spine is very nicely displayed. The fossil has nice orange, limonitic color and contrasts well with the grayish-green matrix. The bug is nicely presented on the rounded plate. This is a very fine specimen of this unusual trilobite.
