Here is a very pretty trilobite. This is Modocia typicalis from the Marjum Formation of Utah. The bug is wonderfully articulated and displays very fine detail. The pleural spines get progressively longer as they near the pygidium (except for the last three, which are very short and slightly reflexed) and terminate in sharp points. The trilobite has very thick exoskeleton that is reddish-brown in color. The fossil contrasts beautifully with the pinkish matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic trilobite from the Middle Cambrian of Utah.
