This is a nice specimen of Jenkinsonia varga from the Wheeler Shale of Utah. This type of trilobite is characterized by its imperfect hourglass shape. This specimen has short, flaring genal spines. Usually this trilobite is found with long genal spines. These findings suggest the idea of sexual dimorphism. This bug is complete and nicely articulated. The free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The eyes are readily apparent and the very tiny pygidium is still attached. The fossil has very nice color and contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate of matrix. This is a very nice example of the rare short-spined variety of Jenkinsonia from the Middle Cambrian.
