Here is a very unusual trilobite from Morocco. This is a very nice specimen of Heliopyge sp. from the Devonian. This specimen was recently acquired from the Valverde Collection, an important collection in Central America. This type of trilobite has a very wide cephalon with short genal spines. The pleurons of the thorax extend into spines. The triangular pygidium has five pair of long spines. This specimen is nicely inflated and somewhat arched. It appears to be "crawling off the rock". The trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits excellent detail. The crescent-shaped eyes are fantastic - the individual lenses are near perfect in preservation. The fossil has interesting natural coloration and contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is well centered on the rounded block of limestone. This is a very fine specimen of this rare trilobite from Morocco.
