This is a very fine specimen of Drotops megalomanicus from the Devonian of Morocco. This trilobite was recently acquired from the Valverde Collection, an important fossil collection in Central America. This ancient arthropod is extremely inflated and beautifully articulated. The thorax and pygidium of the trilobite are perfectly prone with the cephalon tucked downward slightly. The bug has very thick exoskeleton and exhibits nice detail. The individual lenses of both compound eyes are easily seen. The coarse granules on the glabella are quite evident. The dark grayish-black fossil contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rounded block of limestone. This is a very pretty specimen of Drotops megalomanicus.
