As everyone knows, complete Mississippian trilobites are rare. Here is a very interesting plate of Mississippian trilobites from Missouri containing two different genera . The outstretched trilobite is a rare specimen of Comptonaspis swallowi. This genus has a very smooth carapace, almost totally devoid of any ornamentation. This trilobite is very inflated and almost perfectly prone. It is beautifully articulated and exhibits fine detail. The eyes of the trilobite are easily seen. The two enrolled trilobites are Breviphillipsia sampsoni. This type has a more granulose exoskeleton. The brownish fossils contrast nicely with the gray matrix. The bugs are well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very unusual plate of two different trilobites from the Mississippian.
