This is an excellent example of Phacops rana rana from the Middle Devonian of New York. This specimen was dug a number of years ago at the famous Penn-Dixie Quarry. There are two trilobites on the plate - one outstretched and one enrolled. This is a natural occurrence - no compositing has been done to the plate. Both trilobites are inflated and exhibit fine detail. The individual facets of the eyes and the pustulose glabellas are quite evident. The dark grayish-black trilobites contrast beautifully with the light gray matrix. The bugs are well presented on the plate of shale. This is a very nice double specimen of Phacops from New York.
