Here is a gorgeous specimen of Dalmanites limulurus from the Silurian of New York. This large trilobite is inflated and perfectly prone. It is beautifully articulated and exhibits superb detail. The compound eyes stick up above the flat, sleek carapace of the trilobite and display the individual lenses. The broad genal spines and the pointed caudal spine are easily seen. The dark brownish-black trilobite contrasts beautifully with the gray matrix. It is extremely well centered on the somewhat squared block of shale. This is an excellent, "as good as it gets" example of this "classic" trilobite.
