This is a very nice specimen of Dalmanites limulurus. This "classic" trilobite is from the Silurian of New York. The bug is perfectly prone and exhibits fine detail. The long genal spines are quite evident. The caudal spine is easily seen. The eyes protrude above the carapace of this beautifully articulated trilobite. The individual lenses of the eyes are preserved. The brownish-black trilobite contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The fossil is well centered on the plate of shale. This is a very pretty Dalmanites limulurus from the Rochester Shale.
