This is a rare specimen of Megistaspis laticaudata from the Ordovician of Russia. This unusual trilobite exhibits a very triangular cephalon and pygidium. The partially enrolled trilobite is very 3-dimensional and beautifully articulated. The free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The large, crescent-shaped eyes are easily seen. The specimen has been prepared with free-standing genal spines for a dramatic display. There is also a partial Asaphus trilobite on the block of matrix. The trilobites have excellent caramel-brown color and contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unique Megistaspis.
