Here is one of the favorite trilobites of collectors all over the world. This is a large Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Ordovician of Russia. This trilobite has very long stalked eyes that have been prepared in a free-standing position. This trilobite is 3-dimensionally preserved and nicely articulated. The head is slightly tucked downward in the "crawling" position. This makes the long-stalked eyes protrude almost straight out in front of the trilobite. The dark caramel-colored trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The bug is well positioned on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very good example of this long-eyed Asaphid trilobite.
