This is a very nice trilobite. It is a large Elrathia kingi from Utah. This specimen has great detail and excellent black color with beautiful brown highlights. Both free cheeks are intact and tightly attached. The trilobite was extracted from the surrounding rock, and is now totally free of matrix. These "loose" Elrathia have been found with holes drilled in them by Native Americans for use in necklaces. This specimen would make a dramatic centerpiece in a unique piece of jewelry. This is a collectible example of probably the most prolific trilobite in the world.
