This is a very "clean" specimen of Illaenus sp. from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This species of Illaenus has rounded genal areas - the genal angles do not come to a point as in Illaenus schmidti. The trilobite is very 3-dimensional and beautifully articulated. The trilobite assumes the classic Illaenus pose of having the head tucked downward. The trilobite exhibits great detail. The crescent-shaped eyes of the trilobite are quite evident. The rich, caramel-brown color of the trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is aesthetically perched on a large, natural plate of limestone. This is a very sleek specimen of Illaenus sp. from the Wolchow River.
