Here is a nicely outstretched Chotecops sp. from the Devonian of Bundenbach, Germany. These slate quarries are now closed and the only way to obtain these "classic" specimens is through the dispersal of old collections. This is one of those specimens. This trilobite is much more 3-dimensional than most bugs from this site. It is wonderfully articulated and exhibits good detail. The eye facets of the compound eyes are easily seen. The individual thoracic segments and the rounded Phacopid pygidium are clearly defined. The trilobite is beautifully positioned in the center of the large (6.0" X 6.7") plate of roofing slate. Many small pyrite crystals are evident on the carapace of the trilobite. This is an extremely good example of Chotecops from this world-famous site.
