This is a wonderful, double, specimen of Asaphus raniceps. These trilobites are from the Lower Ordovician of Russia. Both trilobites exhibit exceptional preservation. The trilobites are very 3-dimensional and extremely well articulated. They are very "sleek" in appearance. The cephalons of these trilobites are more "pointed" than the cephalons of the many species of Asaphus from the Middle Ordovician. The smaller specimen is almost perfectly prone. The larger specimen is very slightly contraflexed. Both trilobites show very fine detail. The fossils have great, caramel brown, color and contrast nicely with the light-colored matrix. They are well positioned on the large, natural, slab of limestone. This is a beautiful display plate of this unusual species of trilobite.
