This is a whopper of a trilobite. It is a complete Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This specimen is huge - a full 4.6 inches long. The trilobite doesn't look that large in comparison to the cystoid on the plate - except when you consider the cystoid is the size of a golf ball! The trilobite is not only long, it is very wide. The bug is very inflated and 3-D, as is the cystoid. The trilobite is well-centered on the large block of cream-colored matrix. We have seen very few Russian Asaphids this large and this nice. It is a fabulous display plate, and a very collectible Russian trilobite.
