This is a very aesthetic plate of trilobites. This specimen is from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. There are two excellent Asaphid trilobites and one cystoid, a primitive echinoderm, on the same plate. The trilobite on the left is Asaphus (Neoasaphus) punctatus. This species has very long, protruding eyes. The trilobite on the right side of the plate is Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus. This trilobite has a very wide body style and shorter eyes. The trilobites are very prone and nicely articulated. The bugs have wonderful, thick exoskeleton. Associated with the two trilobites is Echinosphaerites sp., a spherical cystoid. All of the fossils are extremely inflated and 3-dimensional. The fossils all have striking natural color, and are well-positioned on the large matrix plate. This is a beautiful example of an Ordovician sea floor bottom preserved for all time.
