Here is a rare US trilobite. This is baby Spathacalymene nasuta from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. This bizarre, shovel-nosed trilobite is very 3-dimensional and quite detailed. The light brown trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light gray matrix. The ancient arthropod is well showcased on the large, squared plate of dense shale. And, yes, this rare baby bug is only 1/2 of an inch long! This is a very collectible baby example of this very uncommon shovel-nosed Spathacalymene nasuta from this classic Silurian formation.
