This is a very rare spiny trilobite. It is a distinct Odontopleura callicera from Perry County, Pennsylvania. This specimen is from the Onondaga Formation, where the classic US trilobite, Odontocephalus, is also found. This specimen was recently acquired from the Martin Anne Collection, and was found over 30 years ago. This specimen is nicely outstretched and is quite detailed - the one compound eye displays its facets beautifully! It is a lucky day indeed when one of these critters was unearthed! This is a very nice example of a trilobite that most collectors have never even heard of. (This is a split pair specimen - both the part and counterpart are included here together.)
