This is a very rare Lower Cambrian trilobite. It is a distinct Mesonacis eagerensis from British Columbia, Canada. This type of trilobite is very unusual - one can easily see by the unusual glabella and thin, truncated pleurons and genal spines that it is not a common Olenellus. In fact, it has many of the same characteristics of the classic trilobite, Mesonacis vermontanus. Although this specimen does not have its FIVE tailspines preserved, it has six segments intact. The bug has good color and contrast and is wonderfully showcased on a large plate of shale that also contains a very nice Mesonacis cephalon. And this is a split pair fossil - the counterpart is also included here (not pictured). This is a very cool example of this highly sought-after Lower Cambrian trilobite.
