Here is a very displayable specimen of a very uncommon trilobite. This is a complete Pterygometopus sp. from the Ordovician of Russia. This specimen was acquired from the famous Chance Collection. This type of trilobite is known for having large, protruding compound eyes and no genal spines. This 3-dimensional trilobite is wonderfully articulated and beautifully displayed in the prone position. The fine detail of the trilobite is quite evident - the pustulose nature of the exoskeleton is beautifully intact, and the compound eye facets are easily seen. The caramel-colored bug contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is well showcased on the natural plate of sculpted limestone. This is a very collectible example of this rare trilobite from Russia. (Comes with Dr. Chance's original reference photo and ID notes.)
