This is a gorgeous Ordovician trilobite. It is a large Illaenus tauricornis from the Asery Level of Russia. Most Illaenus have rounded genal angles, and do not have genal spines. This type has long, hook-like genal spines on each side. This specimen showcases these free-standing spines in wonderful fashion. This outstretched trilobite is extremely 3-dimensional and well articulated. The natural caramel coloration of the bug is quite striking, and the detail is excellent. The widely-spaced eyes are easily seen, and the huge, bulbous glabella is quite spectacular. The trilobite displays beautifully on the large, sculpted plate of limestone. This is a stunning display example of this spiny type of Illaenus.
