This is a very hard-to-find trilobite from New York State. It is a large Monodechenella macrocephala from the famous Penn-Dixie Quarry. This site mainly produced Phacops, but occasionally, a rare Basidechenella or ultra rare Monodechenella is found there. There have only been a handful of complete Monodechenella found in the quarry, and this is one of them. This specimen is from the Eugene Thomas Collection. This trlobite is complete with both free cheeks intact and tightly articulated. The thick shell exoskeleton is preserved, with the reticulation of the many pustules easily seen. This is one type of trilobite that will not be flooding the market anytime soon. This is a classic US trilobite found MANY years ago.
