Here is a very rare specimen of Huntonia (Huntoniatonia) oklahomae from the Lower Devonian of Oklahoma. This specimen was found by Eugene Thomas in 2004 and was just recently prepared. The trilobite is very large (over THREE inches long!) and well preserved. The bug is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - BOTH compound eyes of the trilobite are extremely well preserved. But the most amazing feature of this trilobite is that the left side is well articulated, but large bites have been taken out of the right side of the bug! Parts of the head, body, and tail show damage - that's quite a meal! We prepared this fossil from a cross-section - the trilobite was like this in death, before it was ever collected or prepared. This is a top quality example of Huntonia oklahomae that just happens to have HUGE, textbook bite wounds preserved.
