This is a fabulous Trinucleid trilobite. It is an excellent Cryptolithus bellulus from the classic site at Swatara Gap, Pennsylvania. This specimen was collected by Steve Hess in 1987. This type of trilobite is known for the unusual pitted fringe that encircles the entire front of the trilobite. This specimen has this feature wonderfully displayed (part of the right side is still encased in the rock, not missing). The rest of the trilobite also has fantastic detail - the occipital spine is even present. The bug's natural orange coloration is simply beautiful. This is a top quality example of thisclassic US trilobite from a closed site.
