This is a very well prepared trilobite. It is a very fine Hollardops mesocristata from the Devonian of Morocco. This large trilobite has been meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are easily seen. But the most striking feature of this trilobite is that the head has been prepared fully free-standing! The genal spines are free of matix, and the entire front brim is exposed from underneath. The fossil is beautifully showcased, in high relief, on the sculpted block of limestone. This is one of the most painstakingly-prepared specimens of Hollardops mesocristata that we have ever done.
