Here is an excellent Middle Cambrian trilobite. This is a very scarce example of Oryctocephalus sp. from the Kailia Beds of China. This formation contains a fauna that is very similar to the famous Burgess Shale deposits of Canada. In fact, Oryctocephalus is also found in the Burgess Shale. This type of trilobite has short genal spines and very long, needle-like pleural and pygidial spines. This trilobite is complete and beautifully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached - which is highly unusual. The spines of the bug are wonderfully displayed. It is nicely positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is an extremely fine example of this rare trilobite from the Kailia Beds.
