This is a very rare Lower Cambrian trilobite. It is a distinct Mesonacis eagerensis from British Columbia, Canada. This type of trilobite is very unusual - one can easily see by the non-bulbous glabella, long, thin thorax, and truncated pleurons that it is not a common Olenellus. In fact, it has many of the same characteristics of the classic trilobite, Mesonacis vermontanus. Although this specimen does not have the FIVE tailspines preserved, it is a very nice example. The bug has good color and contrast and is wonderfully showcased on a large plate of dense shale. And this is a split pair fossil - the counterpart is also included here (not pictured). This is a very cool example of this highly sought-after Lower Cambrian trilobite.
