This is a very collectible trilobite plate. It is a mass mortality slab of Phacops rana rana from New York State. This specimen was found in the classic Penn-Dixie quarry, and was in a collection until recently. The plate has eight(!) complete trilobites represented. They are all tightly articulated, so they were most likely alive when buried, not just discarded molted exoskeletons. And they were crawling all over each other when they died! We don't know when we will have another plate of eight Phacops from New York, so you might want to consider this slab if you ever wanted one. This is one piece that can truly be called a "death assemblage".
