Here is a very attractive specimen of an unusual trilobite. This is Foulonia (Metopilekia) from the Ordovician of Morocco. This type of trilobite looks somewhat like a Ceraurus or Ceraurinus with an extremely bulbous glabella and fairly long tailspines. The pleurons are extended into thin, pointed spines, and the pygidium exhibits three pairs of protruding spines, one pair being quite long. This outstretched specimen displays these features in beautiful fashion. This trilobite is wonderfully articulated - usually this type is found in a somewhat disarticulated state of preservation. The 3-dimensional, dark brown bug contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The trilobite is well showcased on the large matrix block. And one of the long tailspines is naturally missing, probably from predation. This is a striking specimen of this highly uncommon Ordovician trilobite from Morocco.
