This is a very rare invertebrate fossil. It is Naraoia compacta from the Wheeler/Marjum Shale of Utah. This commercial lease site is known almost exclusively for trilobites, not soft-bodied animals. Many experts argue whether Naraoia is a true soft-bodied trilobite or a ''trilobitomorph'' imposter. Either way, Naraoia is one of the most interesting and talked-about arthropods from the Cambrian Explosion. This specimen is well preserved and quite colorful. The fossil is very well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains some algae and an agnostid trilobite impression! This is an extremely collectible ''trilobite'' from the Western United States.
