This is a fabulous example of a classic US trilobite. It is a phenominal Bellacartwrightia (Neometacanthus) calliteles from the Penn-Dixie quarry near Buffalo, New York. This wonderful specimen was acquired from a major trilobite collector. This type of trilobite has long, thick genal spines, and many long pygidial spines - both of these features are clearly defined and beautifully displayed on this specimen. The inflated bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail - the compound eye facets are seen in both eyes, and the axial nodes are even preserved! The large trilobite has very nice color and contrast and is well presented on the large plate of shale. This is a very collectible example of this highly sought-after trilobite from New York
