This is an extremely large specimen of Anataphrus vigilans from the Maquoketa Formation of Iowa. Usually, this particular species is found enrolled. Outstretched specimens are very difficult to obtain. Here is a very nice-sized prone specimen. The trilobite is inflated and well articulated. The specimen has great eyes. The caramel-colored fossil contrasts well with the natural piece of matrix. This is a great specimen of an outstretched Anataphrus from the Ordovician of Iowa.
