Here is an excellent trilobite. This is Phacops rana rana from the Middle Devonian of New York. This trilobite is wonderfully prone and beautifully articulated. It is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The individual lenses of the compound eyes are easily seen and the many pustules on the glabella are quite evident. The thick-shelled exoskeleton is totally intact - each and every pleuron tip is present. The black fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is well presented on the large natural plate of shale that also contains an unprepared, enrolled Phacops on the edge of the plate. This is a superb example of this "classic" trilobite.
