Here is an uncommon US trilobite. This is a fine specimen of Maurotarion christyi from the Silurian of Indiana. This specimen was found a number of years ago and recently acquired from a major Waldron Shale collection. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water. It is very rare to find this trilobite in the prone position - usually they are enrolled. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The bug exhibits wonderful detail - the long, thin genal spines are beautifully displayed, and the protruding eyes are easily seen. The butterscotch-colored trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The bug is well showcased on the squared plate of limestone that also contains other fossils. This is great example of this elusive Silurian trilobite from Indiana.
