This is a fabulous specimen of Asaphiscus wheeleri from the Cambrian of Utah. This trilobite was found by Steve Hess in 2000 and just now prepared. This type of trilobite has a huge, semicircular cephalon and a large, somewhat rounded pygidium. This bug is nicely preserved in a prone, outstretched position with both free cheeks intact. The dark color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the lighter-colored matrix. The trilobite is well presented on the large block of dense shale that also contains a tiny, complete Elrathia actually touching the right side of the Asaphiacus! This is a very collectible example of Asaphiscus from the House Range.
