This is a beautiful example of a rare type of Gerastos. This specimen was prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. This trilobite has small genal spines and a smoother glabella and exoskeleton than the much more common Gerastos granulosus. Both free cheeks are intact and well articulated. The smooth surface of the large glabella is quite evident, and the eyes are easily seen. The black-brown color of the bug contrasts wonderfully with the light-grey matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the sculpted block of dense limestone. This is a top quality example of this strange new Gerastos trilobite from the Atlas Mountains.
