This is a classic US trilobite. It is a complete Bellacartwrightia (Neometacanthus) calliteles from the Penn-Dixie quarry near Buffalo, New York. This specimen was found by Eugene Thomas and just now prepared. This type of trilobite has long, thick genal spines, and many long pygidial spines - both of these features are clearly defined and beautifully displayed on this specimen. The inflated bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail - the compound eye facets are seen in both eyes, and the axial nodes are even preserved! The trilobite has very nice color and contrast and is well presented on the large, sculpted plate of shale. This is an excellent example of this highly sought-after trilobite from New York.
