Here is a very rare specimen of Huntonia (Huntoniatonia) oklahomae from the Lower Devonian of Oklahoma. This specimen was found by Eugene Thomas in 2008 and was just recently prepared. The trilobite is large and well preserved. The bug is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The genal spines have been prepared free-standing, and the compound eyes of the trilobite are extremely well displayed. But the most amazing feature of this trilobite is the large bite taken out of the left side of the bug. Even some of the center axial lobe shows damage - that's quite a bite! We prepared this fossil from a cross section - the trilobite was like this in death, before it was ever collected or prepared. This is a top quality example of Huntonia oklahomae that just happens to have a HUGE textbook bite mark preserved.
