This is a beautiful Scutellid trilobite. It is a rare Thysanopeltis sp. from Morocco. This type differs from Thysanopeltis speciosa in that the row of small spines emanating from the border edge of the pygidium alternate long, then short. This bug showcases this feature beautifully. The trilobite is complete and has both free cheeks intact and tightly articulated. The thick shell exoskeleton is incredibly well preserved - the ribs and spines on the tail are wonderfully showcased. This specimen is large for this type, and is nicely displayed on the sculpted matrix block. This is a very fine example of this rare, spiny Scutellid trilobite.
