Here is a very rare specimen of Kainops raymondi from the Lower Devonian of Oklahoma. This specimen was found by Eugene Thomas in 2000 and just now prepared. This type of trilobite is differentiated from Paciphacops by the larger number of lenses in the eyes. This specimen is nicely preserved and very 3-dimensional. The granulose glabella is nicely displayed, and the compound eyes of the trilobite are well displayed. But the most amazing feature of this trilobite is the large bite taken out of the left side of the bug. The right side is still articulated, but some pleurons on the left side have been bitten off, and the center axis is also chomped - we prepared this fossil, and it was like this before it was collected or prepared. This is a very unusual example of this large-eyed Phacopid trilobite with a textbook bite mark preserved.
