This is a classic US trilobite. It is a complete Bellacartwrightia (Neometacanthus) calliteles from the Penn-Dixie quarry near Buffalo, New York. This type of trilobite has long, thick genal spines, and many long pygidial spines - both of these features are clearly defined and beautifully displayed on this specimen. The inflated bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail - the genal spines are free-standing, and the axial nodes are even preserved! The trilobite has very nice color and contrast and is well presented on the sculpted block of shale that also contains a distinct horn coral and a complete, enrolled Eldredgeops! This is an excellent example of this highly sought-after trilobite from New York.
