Before the end of the "Cold War," specimens like this were unheard of outside of Russia. This specimen is a very rare find. It is a Pterygometopus sp. from the Laba River. It differs from the more common Chasmops by not having genal spines. We have seen a few poor quality ones before, but this is an excellent one. It is nicely outstretched and the large eyes are intact. And it is a very large example of this type of trilobite. This is one of the most collectible Russian trilobites we've had.
