This is an excellent example of a rare trilobite. It is a Platyscutellum sp. from Morocco. This type should not be confused with the more common Scabriscutellum. This type of trilobite has a small node or spine emanating from each axial ring and the tops of the eyes. This specimen is complete with both free cheeks present and tightly attached. The inflated trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail. The large, fan tail, the defining feature of Scutellid trilobites, is beautifully displayed on this specimen. The bug has excellent natural color and contrast and is nicely showcased on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a top quality example of this spiny Scutellid trilobite.
