This is a very unusual spiny trilobite double from Morocco. These are Ceratarges sp. (Type B) from the Devonian. These 3-dimensionally preserved trilobites have many long, sweeping spines. The bugs have extended genal spines, two broad, flowing spines emanating from the pygidium, and a pair of long, curving ''horns'' that have been prepared in a free-standing manner on both specimens. In addition to these large spines, each pleuron tip extends into a spine, and there are also many short spines between the larger spines on the pygidium. The eyes are borne on stalks, which have also been prepared totally free of matrix. The bugs have thick, dark brownish-black exoskeleton that contrasts extremely well with the light-colored matrix. The fossils are wonderfully showcased on the large, sculpted block of limestone that has a natural, white, quartz-filled fault line runnong through it (not a crack or break). This is a very impressive example of TWO spiny Ceratarges from Morocco.
