This is a classic US trilobite. It is a complete Bellacartwrightia (=Neometacanthus) calliteles from the Penn-Dixie quarry near Buffalo, New York. This type of trilobite has large, compound eyes, long, thin genal spines, and many long pygidial spines - all of these features are clearly defined and beautifully displayed on this specimen. The somewhat inflated bug is well articulated and exhibits fine detail. The trilobite has very nice color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of shale that also contains a beautiful brachiopod. And this trilobite has a textbook bite mark on the left side of its body! This is a distinct example of this highly sought-after trilobite from New York
